LanguaMetrics, Inc. partnered with Indian Rocks Christian School in late January 2021 to pilot and explore the efficacy of our new fluency tool, FluencyRev™.
One class was selected to participate in grades kindergarten, first, second, and third. All students in the pilot class participated with regular reading multiple days per week. Students used FluencyRev™ from the first week of February through the end of school.
Indian Rocks Christian School uses the NWEA MAP Growth Reading assessment, which is based on the RIT score, for measuring reading growth during the school year. Important to note, that “Control” groups were established, so that the impact of FluencyRev™ could be seen in the results for the “Treatment” groups.
Initial Findings
This research compares NWEA MAP RIT scores for students in the pilot class in kindergarten (treatment group) with the NWEA MAP scores for students in a kindergarten class that did not participate in the pilot (control group).
The data in the table below reflects growth in reading from fall 2020 to spring 2021.
MAP Growth - RIT Scores
Kindergarten Classes - One semester use
Second grade data reflects similar findings. The treatment group who used FluencyRev™ had significant gains from Fall to Spring, while the control group experienced slight gains.

Conclusion
Fully acknowledging that though the sample size is small, we can see the use of FluencyRev™ 20 minutes 3-5 times per week had a significant impact on the reading growth that students achieved in the pilot (treatment) classrooms. Since no other reading programs or tools were introduced during the pilot and the classes measured were consistently using FluencyRev™, this initial data is very encouraging. Combine this with the feedback that students love using the product and teachers love seeing the growth. We would love for you to consider an implementation at your school or district.
